"Port Townsend Paper Corporation’s wastes go several places. Over time, I’ll put example lists of what PTPC reports emitting. As is true for (some? many? most?) industrial facilities, some toxic emissions are counted and reported, some are not. Of those that are counted, some are directly measured and more are calculated from industry tables. They include:
Stacks: “smoke” from the stacks into the air. AKA “the plume”
ASB/wastewater treatment basin: “foul condensate”, an industrial process byproduct, goes into the ASB and from there, it goes variously:
-wastewater into waters of Port Townsend Bay,
-toxic sludge is dredged from the ASB/wastewater basin,
-air emissions go from the ASB into the air
Ash from process boilers/incineration: Toxic high pH ash goes onto PTPC’s onsite ash dump
Unknown: Some amount of material is trucked off-site
Fugitive emissions: Toxins released into the air through random routes that are not included above"
